BeiHai is a large port in the GuangXi region on China's southwest coast. In the city center, BeiBuWan Square has a fountain sculpture evoking the local pearl industry. Nearby, Old Street's 19th-century buildings incorporate Western elements. On the city's southern waterfront, the Silver Beach resort area (named for its light-gray sand) is home to a park with the giant BeiHai Music Fountain.

DunHuang is situated in a rich oasis within the Gobi Desert that includes Crescent Lake. DunHuang held a strategic position at the crossroads of the ancient Southern Silk Route and the main road leading from India via Lhasa to Mongolia and Southern Siberia, as well as the entrance to the narrow HeXi Corridor, which led straight to the heart of the northern China plains and the ancient capitals of Chang'An (known today as Xi'An) and LuoYang. The Gobi Desert is a 'rain shadow desert', formed by the Himalayan mountain range blocking rain-carrying clouds from the Indian Ocean.

ShānDōng lies on the coast in east China, roughly halfway between BeiJing and ShangHai. Provincial capital : JiNan. Also includes the city of QuFu, the birthplace of Confucius. Other well-known cities include QingDao, ZaoZhuang, YanTai, WeiFang, JiNing, LinYi and DeZhou. Among others, ShanDong is known for TaiShan sacred mountain, a large number of natural springs that arise from the mountains to the west (ShanDong means 'East of the Mountains), DaMing Lake formed from the spring waters, LaoShan Scenic Area, Thousand Buddha Mountain, LingYan Temple - one of the 4 most famous temples (四大名刹) from the Tang dynasty, PengLai Pavilion, wine-making and its distinctive cuisine, partly centered on seafood.
