ShānDōng province lies south of HeBei province (that encirles the Beijing municipality), on the east coast of China.


Notable places include TaiShan (Mount Tai), one of the most sacred Taoist mountains, and the city of QuFu, the birthplace of Confucius.

The traditional round houses of the Hakka ethnic minority, called TuLou (土楼), provided a measure of security and were like a small village inside.
