HeBei surrounds the municipalities of BeiJing and the port city of TianJin.

Many interesting sites for weekend trips from Beijing lie in Hebei, including ChengDe and the coastal towns of BeiDaiHe and QinHuangDao.

Mount EMei 峨眉山 scenic area, including the LeShan giant Buddha 乐山大佛
A UNESCO World Heritage site. The first Buddhist temple in China was built here in SiChuan province during the 1st century A.D. in the beautiful surroundings of the Mount Emei and in view of its peak. Over the centuries, the addition of other temples turned the area into one of Buddhism's holiest. The most remarkable - the Giant Buddha at LeShan - was carved out of a hillside in the 8th century and looks down on the confluence of three rivers.
XiaMen 厦门 FuJian province
As a former treaty port, XiaMen has some colonial architecture. As part of China's Opening Up Policy in the early 1980s under Deng XiaoPing, XiaMen became one of the four original special economic zones opened to foreign investment and trade. Shangri-la (XiāngGéLǐLā) was a semi-fictional paradise depicted in the book 'Lost Horizon' by James Hilton. This town in YunNan province, with a great likeness to the fictional paradise that Hilton depicted, was renamed from ZhongDian to Shangri-la in 2001.

YuánMíngYuán was the original Summer Palace in BeiJing and sometimes referred to as the 'Old Summer Palace'. YuanMingYuan lies 8 kilometers (5 miles) northwest of central Beijing, close to the (new) Summer Palace (YíHéYuán 颐和园). It was constructed during the 18th and early 19th centuries and was a wonderland of lakes and waterways, bridges, hills and pavilions.
